Cambodia Ranked High as Retirement Destination

Cambodia is the cheapest country to retire in 2019 according to International Living magazine which focuses on the best places to live and invest worldwide. 

The Annual Global Retirement Index put Cambodia first in their publications in the cost of living category. According to the latest ranking, the overall attractiveness of the country for expatriates and retirees rose last year. It is the fourth year in a row for Cambodia to top the list. Vietnam and Thailand come second and third, respectively. 

The low cost of living allow expats to upgrade their lifestyle literally leading a life of a rich man with a poor man's budget.

In the overall listing of the best places to retire Cambodia is also ranked high – on the 12th line, just ahead of Italy and behind France, scoring between 70 and 80 points out of 100 in several categories like 'visa', 'healthcare' and 'climate'. Some of the features that attract retirees and expats to Cambodia include:

– Warm & hot climate throughout the year
Central location in the SEA region with good overland transport connectivity with the neighbours including Vietnam and Thailand and reliable air link with other countries of the region.
– Economic boom during the last 15 years– Speedy development in construction in the recent years
– Loyal long visa rules – a three-year multiple-entry visa for retirees and expats since 2016
– Sizable expat communities in the largest cities including Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh

Tourist arrivals to Cambodia contunie to rise with 11% growth in 2018 reaching 6.2 mln visitors and so are the numbers of expats who choose Cambodia for long stay or as their retirement destination.
