Phuket acquires new Sheraton resort

Global hotelier chain Starwood Hotels has released a statement saying it is to open a brand new resort on the southern Thai island of Phuket. The statement says that the Sheraton Phuket Kalim Beach Resort will add 230 luxury rooms to the brand’s portfolio and is initially scheduled to open in the early part of 2018.

The resort is being built on an 11-acre plot of land above Kalim Beach. The site offers stunning vistas over the sparkling waters of the Andaman Sea and is slightly north of the epicentre of Phukert’s entertainment and dining hub at Patong.

Rajit Sukumaran, a Starwood vice-president, stated that the opening of the Kalim Resort emphasised the group’s commitment to Southeast Asia and was a significant milestone. Starwood currently operates five Sheraton-branded establishments in Thailand and another 17 under other subsidiaries such as W Hotels and Le Meridien.

Sheraton is collaborating with Phuket Advance Development Ltd on the Kalim Resort. Managing director Sawit Ketroj said his company was delighted to be working with the prestigious Sheraton brand in the launch of a collection of upscale accommodation.

When it opens, the Sheraton Kalim Resort will offer guests all the brand’s signature amenities including fitness programmes and Sweet Sleeper beds. The resort will incorporate two salt-water swimming pools together with a selection of function rooms and suites for seminars and events such as weddings.
