Tourism Sector in Cambodia Is Looking for New Regional Source Markets

Tourist arrivals from China, Thailand and Vietnam are on the rise in Cambodia and the country is very optimistic about the potential of other regional neighbours as major source markets to supply tourists.

And indeed it looks that there are ground for such optimism. During the last couple of years the outbound tourism from e.g. Indonesia grew considerably with Thailand getting the lion's share of the holiday makers. Cambodia has several decent alternatives to offer the Indonesians whether they are looking for a beach or culture rich holiday, believe the PATA Cambodia Chapter (PCC).

Besides Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore are regarded as important tourist source markets. Travellers from these countries do travel quite a lot but habitually skip Cambodia which is in fact a convenient, varied and close destination for them.

The main target in 2019 for Cambodian tourism sector will be India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal. They all experience a sugnificant rise in outbound tourism and PCC is planning to organize special campaigns and activities to attract more visitors from these countries. Thought very promising, it could prove quite challenging to encourage travellers from this region to come to Cambodia as currently there are no direct flights linking their countries with Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville or Siem Reap. The representatives of the Cambodian Airports confirmed that they have already joined hands with several airlines to develop new routes to solve this matter.
