New Modern Ferries May Soon Connect Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi, Thailand

The harbour authorities in Thailand have proposed to introduce six new ferry routes which will connect ports in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi provinces.

The new routes are a part of the 'Andaman Ring' and are expected to facilitate travel between the islands and mainland destinations of the Andaman region providing direct links and eventualy cutting the travel time. Due to the constant growth of tourism in the southern provinces there is a high demand for sea transportation which is not yet satisfied. There are plans to use bigger ferries able to transport vehicles.

The passenger routes under consideration include the main one-hour link between the airports of Krabi and Phuket with the total capacity of 300 passengers per trip; and Saladan pier on Koh Lanta to Ao Por in Phuket.

All other routes will be served by car ferries transporting vehicles and passengers from Ao Por in  Phuket to Chong Lat in Phang Nga and to Tha Len in Krabi; Chong Lat in Phang Nga to the islands of the bay including Koh Yaw Yai and Koh Yaw Noi; Koh Lanta to Krabi; Ao Thong pier on Lang Koh Lanta to Phang Nga via the islands of Koh Hang and Koh Poo; Koh Lanta to Koh Por.

The final decision regarding the new routes will be announed on August, 31 this year.
