Angkor Wat walkway closes for restorations

The management organisation which oversees Angkor Archaeological Park has announced the closure of a walkway across to one of the main temples. A statement released by the Apsara Authority said the walkway to Angkor Wat will be closed for three years to allow essential restoration work to be carried out.

The news update noted that while Spean Harl is closed off visitors will be able to use a temporary pontoon bridge to access the 800-year-old temple. The 200-metre temporary bridge across the temple’s moat is made out of floating platforms, but designed to withstand the weight of 6,400 visitors at a time.

The Apsara Authority says workers doing the restoration work on Spean Harl will use the same kind of stones as when it was originally built and not cement. The statement added that the renovation was being carried out with the assistance of Sophia University from Japan.

Angkor Archaeological Park is close to the Cambodia town of Siem Reap. Travelling here is easy when choosing 12GO ASIA. Our ticketing portfolio includes buses and flights from the likes of Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
