Runners set to line up for popular Phuket marathon at the weekend

Phuket’s Laguna Resort is the venue for this weekend’s island marathon. The resort has released a bulletin saying 7,000 competitors from 40 countries will be running in the 12th edition of the perennially popular event.

The runs take place over two days to avoid congestion on designated courses. On Saturday 3 June, people running in the two kilometre children’s heats, the five kilometre and the 10.5 kilometre runs will set off from the start line at the Laguna.

Competitors in the half and full marathons on Sunday will run early in the morning with start times scheduled for 04:30 and 05:30 respectively. After the prize-giving ceremonies, there is a barbecue buffet at the Laguna’s Angsana Xana Beach Club.

The Laguna Marathon courses take in landmarks such as Ban Don Temple and Sirinat National Park. There are always plenty of spectators on hand to cheer on the runners.

As well as being one of Thailand’s most beloved tourist locations, Phuket is famed for its eclectic annual calendar. 12GO ASIA says the Hungry Ghost Festival, Chinese New Year celebrations and yachting regattas are among the many enticements to pencil in a trip to Phuket.
