One-day pass to Cambodia Angkor temples to double in cost

The price of a one-day ticket to visit Cambodia’s ancient Angkor temple complex will rise by 85 per cent on the 1 February 2017.  The first price hike in 22 years will see visitors pay US$37 instead of the current US$20.

The cost of three and seven day passes will also go up on the same day, but not by as high a percentage. Three-day tickets will increase in price from US$40 to US$62 while seven-day ones will go up by US$12 to US$72.

Tourist agencies in Siem Reap and Cambodia say the fee increases are too high and might deter foreign tourists from visiting Angkor Archaeological Park. Cambodia National Tourism Alliance secretary Ho Vandy says the number of tourists is bound to drop initially, but evaluating again after three months would provide a clearer picture of the effect of the fee hike.

Around two million tourists a year visit the hundreds of temples which make up the Angkor complex. The main park entrance is only a few kilometres from the town of Siem Reap. 12GO ASIA provides travel reservations on routes from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville to Siem Reap.
