Cherdchai Sanan-srisakhon noted that GPS devices would help road-safety officials ensure the vans were being driven in a safe manner. He continued by saying the Transport Company in collaboration with Royal Thai Police officers would also be monitoring drivers and checking over vans to make sure they were roadworthy.
The director-general said the long-term plan was to phase out 10-seater passenger vans and replace them with slightly larger micro-buses capable of carrying up to 16 passengers. He finished off by saying this could not be done yet as the operational licences for most passenger vans were valid until at least 2019.
