Siem Reap to erect lofty observation tower

The council in Siem Reap has released news of a plan to build an elevated viewing tower in the town. Siem Reap provincial governor Khin Song presided over the meeting earlier this week at which the project got the green light.

The governor said afterwards the tower had the full support of the national government and all that remained to get it off the ground was to attract funding from overseas investors. He explained that the tower would be another string to Siem Reap’s tourism bow and would encourage visitors to linger for longer.

Downtown Siem Reap is only five kilometres from the south end of Angkor Archaeological Park. The governor finished off by saying the tower’s observation platform would be placed high enough to give views of the temples as well as of the Tonle Sap River and the pastoral agricultural districts surrounding the town.

The Angkor temples are one of the key enticements which bring four million tourists a year to Cambodia. Other key draws are Phnom Penh’s eclectic city delights, the beaches of Sihanoukville and Kep, and chilled Kampot. 12GO ASIA is your practical ticketing agent for internal travel in Cambodia.
