Thai rail operator to increase fares for travel in new carriages

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced an increase in ticket prices for passengers travelling in its new fleet of carriages. Governor Wuthichart Kalyanamitra says fares for the four main destinations served by these trains will rise by an average of THB200.

He explained that the fare hike would probably be effective from 1 March 2017 and was a reflection of the extra expenses involved in the purchase of the state-of-the-art rolling stock. The SRT bought 115 carriages from China and has been slowly introducing them on its faster express routes.

Passengers have the chance of sampling the pleasures of the new carriages when travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Nong Khai, Ubon Ratchathani and Hat Yai. The carriages feature the likes of super comfort seats and sleeping berths, entertainment, sockets for USB devices and disabled access.

Governor Kalyanamitra says the SRT is holding discussions with Major Cineplex and national music distributors to buy copyrights for entertainment. 12GO ASIA provides a practical online reservations service for State Railway of Thailand tickets.
