Lampang pilots fixed fares for horsedrawn carriage tours

The town council in Lampang this week launched a pilot project which will eventually provide fixed fares for its fleet of horsedrawn carriages. Authorities have designated two of the carriages to test out the efficacy of basing fares on the time and the distance travelled.

A spokesperson for the tourist bureau in this northern Thai town says tourists have two choices when chartering one of the iconic metered horsedrawn carriages. The first is to pay a flag fare of THB30 and then increments of THB7 a minute from then onwards.

The second choice is to pay a time-based fixed fare for a sightseeing tour covering the principal tourism highlights. The mini-version costs THB200 and the extended tour is THB300. One-hour charters are THB400 and the deluxe three-hour option with a choice of six routes comes in at THB1,000.

The two prototype carriages have been fitted with meters to ensure the final fare is fair and above board. 12GO ASIA’s ticketing system offers the same thing. Our fares to northern destinations including Lampang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Sai are competitive and come with the bonus of being able to book online.
