Bangkok to introduce new Klong Saen Saeb canal ferry boats

The operator of ferries on one of Bangkok’s main canals has announced the introduction of two safety-enhanced ferries. A spokesperson for Krobkrua Khonsong said the company had collaborated with the Thai national Marine Department in designing the new vessels for use on Klong Saen Saeb.

A sneak preview shows the seats are configured either side of a central gangway and there are access steps in the middle of both sides of the passenger deck. There are enough seats to accommodate 104 passengers.

Each vessel’s power unit has been tweaked to ensure its exhaust emissions are as clean as possible and do not spew out the black smoke so common on other Bangkok ferries and buses. Krobkrua Khonsong says the new boats will undergo trial runs before the New Year and will then be added to the fleet serving Klong Saen Saeb commuters and tourists.

Klong Saen Saeb ferries link Khao San Road, Banglamphu and Democracy Monument to Wat Sri Boonreung in Bangkapi. Passengers going the whole distance need to switch ferries at Pratunam. Fares for Saen Saeb Canal ferries range from THB10 to THB20.

12GO ASIA does not sell advance tickets for these ferries as they are easily bought on board. What we do is sell tickets for ferries plying routes to islands like Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Phangan.
