New Thailand railway carriages set to roll tomorrow

Thailand’s national rail operator will be introducing new carriages on two major routes tomorrow. The Chinese made bogeys will be launched on select northbound services between Bangkok and Chiang Mai

The State Railway of Thailand will also swap some old carriages for new ones on eastern services between Bangkok and Ubon Ratchathani. Governor Wutthichart Kalyanamit confirmed earlier this week that there had been no last minute hitches and the carriages would be utilized.

The governor continued by saying that the remainder of the 115 new carriages delivered would probably be added to services from Bangkok to Hat Yai and Nong Khai early next month. The new carriages are equipped with personal entertainment screens, USB charging sockets, disabled access, padded seats and sleeping berths, and CCTV.

Tickets for travel on the new trains have been on sale since late month. 12GO ASIA noted that despite the fact the carriages are new, fares are still at the old prices. Khaosod supplied the picture of sleeping berths in one of the carriages.
