The Thai government declared late last month after the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej that it would be inappropriate to stage fun events. This triggered the cancellation of the full moon party as well as the likes of the Loy Krathong Festival and a scheduled concert by the Scorpions in Bangkok.
The Tourism Association’s Wannee Thaipanich said the party had been reinstated but would be toned down somewhat to reflect the fact Thai people are mourning the loss of King Bhumibol. The party will take place on the full moon night of 14 November.
The day coincides with the national government's decision to lift the ban on entertainment nationwide with effect from the same day. Buses, trains, ferries and aeroplanes heading in the direction of Koh Phangan over the coming week are likely to be busy and 12GO ASIA advises pre-booking tickets.
