The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is the owner of the land on which Morchit Station is built. Due to the construction of an SRT service centre at nearby Bang Sue Rail Station, a proposal was put forward to shift Morchit Station II northwards to the district of Chatuchak.
General Anart-ngarm said that Morchit would be enlarged to cover a 20-acre plot and its passenger capacity increased to 150,000 a day. The current maximum capacity is 90,000. The general said a tentative plan to erect a five-storey passenger terminal had been scrapped to keep costs down and the current one would be extended.
Morchit is one of three bus terminals serving the Thai capital of Bangkok. It is the arrival and departure point for 90 per cent of the intercity buses serving the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand. 12GO ASIA sells advance tickets for Morchit routes such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani.
