Thai tourism bureau updates national events schedules

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has released an updated schedule for events due to take place in key locations over the next month. The nation has entered a period of mourning in respect of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej who passed away last week.

The first casualty of the revised schedule is UK singer Morrissey. He was due to play in Bangkok tonight. Other cancelled concerts for the next week include the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra’s The Sound of Thai Heritage on Friday, the Adriano Jordao Piano Recital next Tuesday and the Scorpions 50th Anniversary concert on the following day.

Bangkok’s Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha Temple will stay closed until Thursday. The city’s Lumpini Boxing Stadium has shut for one month while Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium is being shut down with no confirmed date for its reopening.

Thai authorities have stopped street markets in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai for the next month. They have also stated that major festivals such as Yi Peng, Loy Krathong, Pattaya Fireworks Festival and New Year’s Eve countdown celebrations have been removed from the calendar for the time being.

Apart from these adjustments to events timetables, Thailand is fairly normal and has just asked tourists to respect the country’s grief for the king by not wearing impolite or bright clothing and to keep their celebrations low-key. Public transport is generally operating to schedule and 12GO ASIA is still the most reliable source for your ticketing requirements.
