Wutthichart Kalayanamitr, the boss of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), said that onboard staff would be spending more time on cleaning and the new look bogeys would be put into service on 26 March 2017. The date marks the 120th anniversary of the foundation of the SRT.
The governor continued by saying third class had been designed to cater to the poorer members of Thai society as well as travellers on a budget. He explained that seats in this class did not generate a lot of revenue and for this reason the carriages had not been upgraded for many a year.
Mr Kalayanamitr finished off by saying the Thai government wanted to better the lot of all members of society and the upgrade of the carriages was its bequest to rail travellers. The refurbished carriages will be added to trains travelling between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Nong Khai, Ubon Ratchathani, Hat Yai and Sungai Kolok on 26 March.
12GO ASIA says travelling long distance in a third class Thai train carriage can be a bit tiring. For this reason, we offer alternate travel options when consolidating our ticketing options.
