He carried on by saying the service was being launched to alleviate road traffic congestion in the capital and had been instigated at the request of prime-minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The major-general explained that four smaller boats would initially be used to provide service and that bigger boats would be introduced once the canal had been dredged.
The five-kilometre ferry-boat service will link the city’s main rail station at Hua Lamphong and Thewet Pier. The pier is close to the right bank of the Chao Phraya River and will provide commuters and tourists with a convenient link to Express Boat services.

A spokesperson for the Thai government has announced the debut of a ferry service on Bangkok’s Phadung Krung Kasem Canal. Major-general Sansern Kaewkumnerd told reporters the ferries will launch sometime this month but did not reveal the exact date.
