Cambodia woos long stay visitors with proposed visa concessions

Cambodia is preparing to add another visa option to its portfolio which will enable tourists to reside in the country for up to three years at a time. The national tourism-minister told reporters in Phnom Penh the visa would be good for multiple entries and available from 1 September 2016 onwards.

Thong Khon carried on by saying that the long-term visa would encourage foreign retirees and those with sufficient means to choose to reside in Cambodia. He explained the cost of the visa would depend on how long the holder stayed in Cambodia and that the scale of fees had not been finalised as yet. Three-year visas will be open to applicants of all countries.

Cambodian visas for short stays currently vary in cost. Citizens of ASEAN-bloc nations are allowed visa-free entry which is valid for 14 days. Tourists from most other countries pay US$30 for 30-day visas at Cambodian embassies, consulates and designated entry points to the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also offers an online visa processing service which attracts an extra US$7 service fee. 12GO ASIA offers online tickets reservations for buses from Phnom Penh to destinations such as Kampot, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville but without any additional charges.
