Thailand to upgrade road leading to Singkhon Pass and Myanmar

A senior official in Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan Province says the road leading to Singkhon Pass and Myanmar is to be upgraded. Divisional roads director Paiboon Rueangyuwanon told reporters the route would be widened from two lanes to four and ramps installed close to the border crossing.

The director explained that engineers had already carried out surveys to assess the feasibility of the upgrade. He added that before any construction work could commence it would have to be presented to the public at an official hearing.

Mr Rueangyuwanon said that once the project got the green light it would be included in the 2017 fiscal budget and come with a tentative completion date of 2019. The route from Phetkasem Road-Highway 4 to Singkhon is about 15kms long. On the Myanmar side of the border, Maw Daung is the nearest settlement of any size.

The road upgrade and the plan to turn Singkhon into an official Thailand-Myanamar border checkpoint is all part of a master strategy to enhance trade and tourism between the two nations. Beaches such as Ao Manao, delectable seafood and Waghor Aquarium are among the enticements that are drawing more and more tourists to Prachuap Khiri Khan.

If tourists were able to travel across to Myanmar for day excursions, or longer, it would be an added incentive to visit this region of Thailand. 12GO ASIA provides convenience when buying tickets for travel to Prachuap Khiri Khan, Hua Hin and other popular locations in southern Thailand.
