European tourism body names Cambodia as top global destination

One of Europe’s premier tourism and development organisations has placed Cambodia at the top of its rankings of global travel destinations. Cambodia garnered the number one place in the European Council on Tourism and Trade’s 2016 World Best Tourism Destination list.

There were more than 30 applicants for the 2016 ECTT prize. The council released the results last week and noted that the Southeast Asian had triumphed with its beautiful presentation entitled A Land of Magic - The Place Where Gods And Kings Built the World.

The judges noted that Cambodia’s amazing heritage, traditions and abundance of historical draws had played a significant role in influencing their decision. ECTT president Anton Caragea added that Cambodia was now safe and a visit to this cultural mecca would remain a treasured memory for years to come.

Angkor Archaeological Park is the nation’s attraction extraordinaire. The park is close to Siem Reap and home to hundreds of temples up to 1,200 years old. Preah Vihear Temple, a 400km-plus long coastline inlaid with wonderful beaches and a hospitable atmosphere are among the chief reasons countless international tourists are now choosing holidays in Cambodia.
