Bridge linking Krabi Lanta islands officially opens

The pristine beaches of the Koh Lanta islands became that bit easier to access on Friday with the opening of a new bridge. Thailand’s transport-minister presided over ceremonies to inaugurate the 650-metre-long Siri Lanta Bridge in the nation’s southwestern Krabi Province.

The THB450 million structure links the two main islands of the archipelago, Koh Lanta Yai and Koh Lanta Noi. Transport-minister Arkhom Termphittayapaisit said the new bridge would solve the problem of travelling between the two islands and provide more convenience for islanders and tourists alike.

Koh Lanta Noi faces across to the mainland of Krabi. At present, RoRo car ferries and speedboats are the only means of traversing the narrow strait between the two. Koh Lanta Noi is really just a stepping stone for tourists en route to the diverse attractions of Koh Lanta Yai.

Ferries only ran between the two islands from 06:00 to 22:00. The piers on the islands were a bit of a traffic bottleneck. There were always sizable queues of vehicles waiting to board and this was especially true during the peak tourist season between October and February.

Koh Lanta is one of12GO ASIA’s most popular tourism destinations. We sell tickets from Bangkok, Krabi and Phuket to Koh Lanta. Ferries dock at Ban Sala Dan Pier on Lanta Yai.
