First half of Phuket big bike fest concludes successfully

The first segment of Phuket’s annual bike fest has concluded successfully and the organisers are busy preparing for the start of the second section on Friday. The 22nd version of Phuket Bike Week began on 8 April and finished on Sunday.

The first part was staged on Patong Beach and local media reporters say record numbers attended over the three days. For the second two-day instalment, the organisers are shifting locations to Phuket Old Town.

Phuket Bike Week 2016 is being promoted with the slogan ASEAN Ride Together and is designed to engender unity among member nations of the Asian bloc. Announcing details last month, Phuket Bike Week Association said in a statement that it expected 50,000 motorcycle fans to attend.

The association forecast that riders would bring up to 10,000 motorcycles to the event. Judging by the number of motorcycle convoys heading to Phuket for the start of the Songkran festival yesterday this number could easily be surpassed.

People travelling into Phuket Town on Friday or Saturday will have the opportunity of admiring vintage, classic and race bikes as well as custom-specials. Bike parades, live music and a beauty contest are among other entertainment on offer.
