Infrastructure at Thai national parks set for upgrade

Thailand’s national parks division has allocated a budget of THB500 million to give facilities at the 50 most visited parks a spruce up. Thanya Nethithammakul is the director of the Department of National Parks and he says the budget will be used to upgrade all the facilities visitors use at the park.

He stated that the funds would be utilised on revamping toilets, offering more restaurant and accommodation choices, and even improving pathways. The director noted that the increasing popularity of the parks plus a more streamlined means of collecting income from entry ticket sales had given the department the funds it needed for the infrastructure revamp.

Mr Nethithammakul continued by saying that another area that needed exploring was the possibility of employing hospitality professionals to take care of visitors. He finished off by saying the upgrades would ensure Thailand’s national parks were as good as any in the world.

Department figures show that Thailand’s national parks get 12 million visitors annually. The most popular parks are Erawan in Kanchanaburi, Khao Yai in Nakhon Ratchasima Province and the combined Koh Phi Phi-Hat Noppharat Thara park on the Andaman Sea coast.
