The governor explained that the flight-to-boat concept would provide passengers using Phuket Airport with an alternate means of travel to Patong. He added that a bonus would be that the service would likely ease traffic congestion on the busy west coast of the island.
According to the Phuket Gazette, Mr Tipayapongtada said the finer details of such a service still needed to be worked out in order to provide the best transport options. As a codicil, he noted that there was a probability boats would not be able to operate during the annual southwest monsoon season, but this coincided with the low season anyway.

The governor of Phuket has announced a mooted boat-taxi service from the island’s airport has passed an initial environmental study. Chamroen Tipayapongtada told local reporters that the airport link to the key resort town of Patong was looking like a distinct possibility as the plan has been passed by the Environmental Impact Assessment agency inspectors.
