The setting for the third festival in the series is Singha Park in the Mae Kon district of the province. Mae Kon is to the southwest of the city of Chiang Rai. The park is owned by the Singha Corporation. At a recent press briefing to announce the festival, vice-president Rungsrid Luxsitanonda extended an open invitation for tourists to come and join in the fun.
There will be an official launch ceremony on opening day. Park officials say 30 colourful hot-air balloons supplied by more than 10 different nations will provide an awesome spectacle. Visitors will also have the opportunity of soaring above the treetops and verdant landscapes in the basket of a balloon themselves.
Musicians and food stalls will be on hand to enhance the entertainment and ensure attendees are able to sample the North’s delicious culinary gems. Valentine’s Day will be celebrated with extra activities including a sound-and-light spectacular.
Singha Park is a peerless tourism attraction with features such as a 230-acre tea plantation, beautiful farm and natural vistas, a zip-line and a climbing wall. The northern Thai province of Chiang Rai is the venue for an international balloon jamboree next week. The 2016 Chiang Rai Balloon Fiesta kicks off on Wednesday 10 February and will culminate in a cultural extravaganza on Valentine’s Day.
