Marine Police commander Panya Chaichana says the target is to have every single person working the tourist vessels to take a course before mid-March. He noted that more than 100 people had already done the course.
The courses are being run under the theme of Safety is the Heart of Tourism and will ensure all crew operate to strict protocols. Lieutenant-colonel Chaichana said properly trained crews would reduce the risk of accidents and give them the knowhow on how to be effective in medical emergencies.
He continued by saying an integral part of the training was live practice in mock emergency situations. The commander concluded his statement by adding that all those who had taken the courses so far had seemed happy and were proactive in all the live drills.

Last week, Phuket Marine Police launched health and safety courses for crews of tourism boats. The sessions are designed to provide crew members with the rudimentary skills needed to deal with any emergencies during the course of sightseeing or dive excursions.
