Trying to kiss a python gets Chinese tourist bitten

A Chinese woman who tried to kiss a python at a Phuket snake show on Saturday was bitten by the creature. Witnesses say Jin Jing, 29, was in the front row of the audience at the Soi Palai snake centre when two handlers offered her the chance of pecking the python.

As she stooped forward to take up the offer, the creature sank its fangs into her nose. A video posted up online of the incident shows the python did not want to release its grip even though Ms Jing tried to pull it off and other audience members were screaming in fright.

Eventually the snake was dragged off. The wound caused by the bite was deep enough for Ms Jing to need medical attention and she was sent to Phuket Town’s International Hospital.

Pa-wai Odski is the firm that operates the snake show where the victim was bitten. A spokesperson said the firm had since paid Ms Jing THB100,000 in compensation to cover the cost of her hospital bills and any distress or pain the incident may have caused her.

The spokesperson noted that the python was a reticulated one and this sub-species was a constrictor but not poisonous. The representative declined to comment when asked if kissing the snakes is a part of the shows.
