Lost tourists rescued by Koh Samui emergency services

Two foreign tourists stuck in the mountains of Koh Samui were rescued early on Sunday. The rescue squad mounted a search for the couple from Ukraine after staff at the hotel they were staying at notified police they were missing.

The call from the Hanzar Hotel came at about 22:00 on Saturday evening and staff said they thought the duo had gone up into the hills somewhere above Maenam and Lamai. At 24:00, a rescue team from Wat Plai Leam managed to make contact with the couple via one of their mobile phones.

The two still did not know where they were, but the team managed to triangulate their position from the phone’s signal and then find them. They told the rescue workers that they had been for a meal at a restaurant called the Peak Eye View prior to setting off for the Bophut Fisherman’s Village hotel in their rented Toyota Vios.

The unnamed couple told rescuers they got lost in the dark and had been waiting a long time for somebody to come past and give them directions. The rescue teams escorted them down to the island’s main ring-road where the rest of the search party was waiting.
