Chiang Mai promotes travel to the north by special train

Chiang Mai provincial officials are collaborating with the Thai national rail operator in promoting a series of special train services to the north. Called Train Ride to the North, the campaign focuses on the traditions and historical attractions of the former Lanna Kingdom.

Provincial governor Pavin Chamniprasart stated that each of the special trains will accommodate up to 250 passengers. He noted that it was a heaven-sent opportunity to see places peculiar to Lampang, Lamphun and Chiang Mai from the comfort of a railway carriage seat.

The first bespoke railway odyssey took place last weekend and the next is due to take place on the 28th and 29th November and one of its focal points will be the Mae Mo Festival. Additional trips are timed to coincide with national Father’s Day on 5th December, Children’s Day on 9th January 2016 and Valentine’s Day on 14th February.

State Railway of Thailand ticket offices in key stations such as Hualamphong in Bangkok have more details about Train Ride to the North. 12GO ASIA sells tickets for scheduled buses and trains running between Bangkok and the northern regions of the country.
