Thailand mulls trains to link southern Andaman Sea provinces

Thailand’s Transport Planning Division is looking into the feasibility of laying down a train line linking the southwestern coastal provinces. Division director Pheerapol Thawornsupacharoen said recently that the route was one of several possibilities that could improve transportation infrastructure in the south of the nation.

If the proposal becomes a reality, the line will connect Phuket and Krabi with Trang and Satun. The director noted that his staff would speed up the viability study and added that it would be a boon to both tourists and people living in the region.

He continued by saying trains would provide cheaper travel options and allow the movement of freight at more economical prices too. If goods transportation costs were lower this would mean the price of products and produce for consumers would be lower as well.

The four provinces are situated on the Andaman Sea coastline and noted for their natural beauty, beaches, diverse attractions and dining. The only train line through the southern peninsula of the country runs parallel with the opposite eastern coast and links Bangkok and Hat Yai.

Travellers looking to buy tickets for buses and trains on routes through southern Thailand will find 12GO ASIA’s services the most convenient.
