Hua Hin park gets huge new royal statues

A brand new park complex in Hua Hin has started taking delivery of an assemblage of enormous statues of Thailand’s former royal kings. The Thai army has allocated a plot of its own land in the seaside resort town to provide the tribute to the country’s illustrious monarchs.

Ratchaphak Park will eventually be the new home of seven of the royal statues. The statues are being cast in five different provinces surrounding Bangkok and moving them to their new homes is a gargantuan task in itself.

Bringing the 14-metre high statute of King Rama IV required a 22-wheel transporter and police roadblocks all along its route from Ayutthaya to Hua Hin. The arrival of the statues is not treated lightly either. On Monday evening, Royal Thai Army dignitaries including major-general Sanya Chansanguan and lieutenant-general Suthat Charumanee stood in a respectful silence as Rama Kings I and IV were transported into the park.

Once all the statues have been installed on their pedestals and the grounds have been landscaped, Ratchaphak Park will be a permanent testament to Thailand’s rich history and another jewel in Hua Hin’s tourism crown. Buying bus or train tickets to Hua Hin is hassle-free when you choose 12GO ASIA.
