The exhilerating beaches of Khao Lak

Khao Lak is a seaside destination consisting of a 20km-long strip of beaches facing out to the Andaman Sea on the southern Thai peninsula. Beaches such as Bang Niang and Pakweeb epitomise tropical paradise and, compared to those 80kms south on Phuket Island, are peaceful and uncrowded.

Khao Lak’s reputation as a quiet backwater is further emphasised by the fact that it only has a tiny bus station and is not the terminus for any intercity bus routes. Nevertheless, it is easy enough to get to Khao Lak as it is on through routes linking Bangkok, Chumphon, Surathani, Takua Pa, Ranong, Krabi and Phuket.

Highway 4 runs parallel to the Andaman coast at Khao Lak and buses passing through will stop at resorts en route. Passengers only need to tell the conductor on local buses or the hostess or steward on the long-distance buses where they want to get off.

Buses from Bangkok to Phang Nga via Khao Lak leave from the city’s Southern Bus Station and take about 10 hours to get here. 12GO ASIA offers a convenient ticket reservations service for bus and train tickets to destinations throughout Thailand.
