Travelling to Khao Yai National Park the easy way

Expanding across four provinces, Khao Yai is the biggest national park in Thailand. It is renowned for its abundant wildlife, beautiful landscapes, waterfalls and range of activities. Hiking up Khao Rom mountain, night safaris and river-rafting are among activity options. Visitors may catch glimpses of rare bat species, great hornbills, elephants and gibbons.

From Bangkok, Khao Yai is most easily reached via Pak Chong in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Pak Chong is on the main road and rail routes to the northeast of Thailand. Trains from Bangkok’s Hualampong Station take between three and four hours to reach Pak Chong.

There are around 10 trains a day in each direction with class options of third and second. Carriages on these services are mostly air-conditioned, although some third-class ones are fan cooled. It is definitely better to opt for air-conditioning if travelling in the daytime just for a respite from the heat. Tickets for travel are available on this webpage.

Buses to Pak Chong depart from Bangkok’s Morchit Station. Departures are frequent during the day. Vistors have two or three options for travel from Pak Chong to Khao Yai. Songthaew shared taxis run to the park’s main gate. Several shops in Pak Chong have motorcycles for hire.
