Kannithi Aviation owns Kan Air and company president Somphong Sooksanguan says that as the airline has just had its second aircraft delivered the decision was made to establish U-tapao as a secondary hub. The aircraft is an ATR 72-500 turboprop with a 60-seat configuration.
The service between U-tapao and Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport will launch with daily flights, but initially utilising six-seat Hawker Beechcraft before switching to the ATR 72-500 on an as yet unspecified date. Kan Air will fly from U-tapao to Chiang Mai and back on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Flights on the U-tapao to Khon Kaen route will operate on the same days as the Chiang Mai ones while services to Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. U-tapao Airport is a former Vietnam War base for B-52 bombers and is about 200kms from Bangkok.

People visiting the Thai seaside resort of Pattaya will soon be able to fly here from five other locations in the country. Local carrier Kan Air says that from 10 April 2015 it will be flying to Pattaya U-tapao Airport from Chiang Mai, its hub airport in the north of the country, plus Bangkok’s second airport and three other airports in the eastern Isaan region.
