Langkawi Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

The Island of Langkawi has all of the variety in accommodation you could expect to find in a long, diverse and fascinating coastline. Big budgets, small budgets, city slickers and country folk, you’re catered for. Options for the eager vary from the world-renowned names in luxury accommodation to the most uncomplicated and appealing hostels. The host of accommodations all benefit from, and some work beautifully with, the immediate natural setting. The result is tranquil, picturesque and sheer decadent views and experiences.

Top End

Calling all honeymooners and lottery winners! The ideal island getaway has never looked this good. Grab your wife, husband, wallet or purse and prepare to indulge your every sense. The handful of high-end lodging options include weighty names such as The Four Seasons, The Westin and The St Regis. The facilities and finishings are straight first class, and are everything you expect them to be. However, there are also some local first-class favourites of ours that offer equal, if not superior decadences.

The Datai Langkawi is truly something special. The resort is nestled in amongst the centuries-old virgin rainforest with a private footpath leading to an idyllic stretch of private beach. Each room, suite or villa have their own private balcony, looking onto either the crystal blue Andaman or the surrounding verdant rainforest. The resorts facilities seem endless. With an intimate and visually astounding spa, the private beach and offered watersports, expansive surrounding rainforest ready for exploration and enjoyment, there is slim chance that you’ll find yourself without something to do. A similar choice, with more tasteful indigenous influences in its decoration, is The Andaman Langkawi.

Mid-Range

The traveller seeking the comfort of modern-day wonders like air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a minibar in their room will be pleased to hear that there is no shortage of mid-range accommodation boasting these features and more. Whether you want to be rubbing shoulders with sweaty, unidentified foreigners by night or exploring the natural wonders of the area by day in the more quiet nooks of this paradise, you won’t be left wanting.

If you’re in the market for all the amenities but for some of the cost, the universe generally forces a compromise in one of these two dimensions. After all, we have learned that you can’t have your cake and eat it. However, there are unique and rare circumstances that refute this pattern – Sunset Beach Resort is one of them. We thoroughly enjoyed the traditionally designed rustic chalets that are surrounded by a well-manicured and beautiful looking tropical garden. The resort is a mere stroll from duty-free outlets, a host of cuisine options, and the ever popular and lively stretch of Pantai Cenang. It offers a convenient concoction of relative exposure to, and protection from, the buzz of the nearby bars, shows and outlets.

Budget

The backpacker saving money for bus-tickets can afford to keep Langkawi on their list of places ready to be explored and experienced. We had absolutely no problem locating inexpensive, clean and well-located hostels in Pantai Cenang, Kuah and other areas. Close to absolutely everything, including some great natural and cultural activities, The Sweet Monkey backpackers in Cenang is a sure bet.

At the edge of the lower-end budget is RL Budget Accommodation Langkawi. Located in the central Pantai Cenang, four minutes on foot to the beach, guests can enjoy the surrounding activities and lively establishments. The rooms are a steal at MYR50. Each room has an en suite bathroom and some come with cosy balconies. To top it off, the accommodation sells a noteworthy aromatic coffee to get you up and exploring in the A.M.
