Langkawi Beaches

Filled with stretches of white sand and turquoise water that take your breath away, Langkawi is famous for its pristine beaches – and rightly so!

Pantai Cenang

Undoubtedly, the most famous beach in all of Langkawi, Pantai Cenang, is a scene of bodies sprinkled amidst the glistening sand, activities, games, boats and jet skis. It’s not the quietest beach, but that’s unlikely to be your craving when you come here. Rather, the beachfront is lined with reasonably priced, enticing cafés, restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops.

You can, and should, go for a paddle and splash amidst the frothy waves. However, keep an eye out for the numerous jet skiers. Jet skis, and many other adrenalin pumping, water bouncing, and sky soaring activities take place at this beach.

If you’re into toys and rides, this is your spot. The beach and area itself is central to Kuah, the airport, and surrounding attractions. A great beach for the tourist wanting to be in the centre of the action!

Pantai Tengai

Not too dissimilar from Pantai Cenang, Pantai Tengah is a sanctuary for the adrenalin junkie. Any water sport mechanism ever thought up can be found and enjoyed here. It is however, not quite the place for the booking reading, reflective beach goer. The audible squeals of excitement are sure to distract. The beach is situated just around the southern road of Pantai Cenang.

Pantai Kok

Pantai Kok is sure to pique the interest of nature appreciating families and outdoorsy couples. Minus the flurry of Pantai Cenang and add the backdrop of a lush surrounding forest and charismatic marina, and you’ve got it! The beach is relaxing and earthy, yet it is near to restaurants and popular tourist attractions.

Pantai Tanjung Rhu

Pantai Tanjung Rhu is definitely one of our favourites. Are you a sunset chaser? If not, be one, and then come here! The colours of the evening sky will impress the grumpiest of self-involved teenagers and will leave you feeling astonished as you watch the clouds change colour.

The beach is also great before sunset, of course. It is secluded and soothing and feels to have a cooler air than the surrounding beaches. It is long and picturesque with the white sand bordered by green goodness on either side. There is also a picturesque ride in and out through some luscious forest.

Black sand beach

Black sand beach is a photographer’s paradise! The outstanding sunsets, along with a host of other attributes, make it a great place for you and your camera. In the afternoon, before the backdrop of islets and mountains, fishermen dock their boats to an old wooden jetty.

The overall scene is somewhat inexpressible. Overall, the beach is peaceful and picturesque. It is also around the corner from the Langkawi Craft Complex – great stuff. It even has a playground for the kids. Moreover, the beach is firm enough to allow for a great game of cricket or frisbee – just this being enough reason to pay a visit, I think.

Pantai Pasir Tengkorak

Pantai Pasir Tengkorak is also very secluded. The beach is a nearby option for adventure junkies, as there are many treks and options for camping in the proximity. The beach has fantastic rock formations to admire and convenient beach huts and picnic tables to rest at while you do so. A bonus – the beach’s name, translated to Skull Sand Beach, has some interesting legends that lay claim to its interesting origin.

Datai Beach

Datai Beach is secluded and beautiful. The area is dominated by [exclusive resorts](/en/malaysia/langkawi/stay. For this reason, it is a good distance from anything else. For this same reason, it is not really worth visiting, should you not be in one of the aforementioned resorts.
