Kuching Hotels, Hostels and Resorts

The tourist infrastructure in Kuching is well established, with many travellers, with all different travel styles, using the area as a base for their adventures in Borneo. This means that accommodation is plentiful, with many options in different price ranges, all set up for tourists to be able to enjoy as part of their stay. As with most of Malaysia, you’ll tend to find that prices are a bit of a bargain, and standards are generally very good for the money that you pay. As a result of this it’s a great spot to upgrade from your usual accommodation and splash out on a bit of a treat if you can afford to.

Top End

When it comes to high end and luxury options, there are several great spots to choose from. If you’re looking for a reliable brand and a convenient location near to the airport then you can’t go too far wrong with the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton, which is modern and a brand new 4* business hotel. There is also a Hilton, which is located centrally and near to the riverside - it’s worth paying extra to enjoy riverside views.

Also near to the riverfront is the very popular Merdeka Palace Hotel which is the oldest hotel in this class and features attractive colonial style architecture. If you’re visiting Kuching in the off season then it can be possible to secure a good discount. This place also has a rooftop pool, making it a great place to see those sunsets and admire the views of the city.

Mid-Range

In the mid range bracket there is everything from smaller boutique hotels to larger, more standard chain options, depending on what you might prefer. Within the city centre Lott 10 is popular, with a decent tour desk who can help you with local transportation and tours, as well as boasting a particularly good buffet breakfast.

Another good choice located in the city centre is The Lime Tree Hotel, which is just a minute or two’s walk from the waterfront and with great access to Chinatown and various shopping malls. The Harbour View Hotel is similarly conveniently located, but a little more basic - it’s a popular choice with tour groups who are travelling in the area.

Outside of the town centre, there are some more mid range options. The Damai Beach Resort is a good spot if you’re looking to take in some diving or snorkelling, and has a private beach as well as numerous sports facilities and a good restaurant.

For a more exotic feel, many prefer the Basaga Holiday Residences which are a decent walk away from the riverfront, but have a more tropical and rainforest feel which some visiting the area like. It also has a swimming pool, as well as a lovey courtyard and bar area, making it a great place to relax in the evening after a busy day sightseeing.
