How to get from Manila to Banaue

ocated approximately 470 kilometres north of Manila via the Pan-Philippine Hwy/AH26, Banaue is famous for its centuries-old rice terraces. It is reachable only overland and there are several bus companies that ply this route on a daily basis. Unless there are some delays, you can expect the travel time to be between 10 and 12 hours.

Buses from Manila to Banaue

Ohayami Trans serves the Manila to Banaue route daily at 10pm from their own bus station in Lacson Avenue, corner of Fajardo St. in Sampaloc. On Friday and during peak seasons, they have an additional trip scheduled at 9.30pm. Bus fare is around PHP600-700 depending on the type of the bus.

Coda Lines Corporation also has buses bound for Sagada that pass through Banaue. If you're located near Cubao, this is your best bet as their terminal is located in Monte de Piedad corner Maryland St. in Cubao. Their buses depart daily at 4am, 8pm, and 9pm and they have both regular aircon and deluxe buses. The former costs about PHP600 while tickets for the latter costs around PHP670. As always, ticket prices can change without prior notice so it is always best to check in advance.

Besides the two bus lines mentioned above, there's another bus company with buses departing for Banaue from Sampaloc, Manila. Stationed at Lacson Ave., cor. Earnshaw St., GV Florida Transport has daily trips at 10.45pm. The fare should be about PHP650. You can also board any bus bound for Bontoc as it also passes through Banaue. An Autobus also has a scheduled departure for Banaue at 10pm .

From Manila to Banaue via Tuguegarao

If for any reason you’ve missed all the direct buses to Banaue, you can hop aboard a bus that departs for Tuguegarao. This destination is served by Florida Transport, Victory Liner, and Baliwag Transit. Get off at the town of Solano in Nueva Vizcaya then take a jeepney bound for Lagawe. From there, there are lots of jeepneys going to Banaue.

In stead of getting off at Tuguegarao, you can also alight at Bagabag junction, ride a bus to Lagawe and then a jeepnet heading to Banaue. Jeepney fare should be between PHP50 and PHP70.

Bus types, onboard service and road conditions between Manila and Banaue

The road between Manila and Banaue is quite good at the moment.

Buses plying the direct route to Banaue, usually make two toilet and meal breaks.

Note that Ohayami buses are not equipped with toilets but they have reclining seats, video facilities, and WiFi onboard. Coda Lines and GV Florida Transport, however, have deluxe buses with toilets, WiFi, and no aisle seats which is a plus if traveling during peak season.

As for safety, you won't have anything to worry about as there are 2 drivers per buses that drive alternately during the trip. Wear warm and comfortable clothes as the air-conditioning can sometimes be excessive.

As a night bus trip this was not bad but we found air conditioning cold and there were not enough blankets for everyone. The advertised wifi was also non-existent. Safe driver though and we got there ahead of schedule.

This is meant to be a VIP bus but apart from the (non working) toilet on board, nothing about this bus is VIP. The seats are small (and I'm pretty small) so you feel squashed and they are not comfortable, especially for a journey of 9 hours. People bring lots of luggage on board and put them under the seats so you can't even stretch your legs. The toilet on board doesn't work and there is no water to wash your hands. Of course no toilet paper or soap. It's just toilet in name otherwise it needs a lot of improvement. The driver drives like crazy and I arrived an hour before I was meant to arrive into Banaue. The air conditioning is so high that even with multiple layers and trousers and shoes on, I was absolutely frozen. It is the coldest bus I have ever been on and I've travelled a lot in Asia. If you're going to take the bus wear 2-3 layers and consider tights under your trousers because it really is that cold. We only stopped once for a break, which wasn't enough as it is so cramped on the bus that you really need at least a couple of stops to stretch your legs. No blankets or wifi, which was advertised. Unfortunately there's not many companies that offer this route so until there is more competition Coda lines will continue to run this poor service. It's not a VIP service, little more than a public bus. The staff are nice, which is the positive and that I reached Banaue safely.

Areas of Improvement 1. The seats are cramped and there is not enough legroom. The price of 600+ is almost near that of JOYBUS executive coach. Its like riding a regular bus. 2. Non-accomodating staff. They won't help you with your bags and they have no training on assisting tourists. It was too cold inside the bus and there were no blankets offered, no wifi, no television. Not comfortable. My fellow passenger was shaking because of the temperature. 3. Waiting Area had no protection from heat and rain. Positive Points 1. We reached Banaue at 4.30 AM

Driver was very good en drive safely. Only reason I don’t give 5* is because of te AC. Very cold in the bus, not easy to fall asleep while it’s that cold.

The station was difficult to find. The air conditioning was far to cold. Even though I knew this and wore several layers of clothing I was very chilled. The ride itself was good. We left on time and arrived in Banaue ahead of schedule.

The van arrived 45 min late, but we had been previously informed. There was a big van just for 2 people. The driver and copilot didn't wear the attire described on the voucher. Sometimes, they drove unsafely. There was a lack of communication about the stops planned.

Trajet fait en 6h30 au lieu de 9h... impossible de dormir tellement la route est chaotique, on est secoués et on glisse sur le siège. Mais le bus était plutôt neuf. Un arrêt à mi chemin.

Bus are really nice and comfortable. Drivers are rude and we asked tu turn down airconditioner because we where really cold and they did not. We asked for blankets what was in VIP price but they said that they dont have. So it was really bad trip for us, we could not slee becuase we where freezing.
