Ranong confirms annual spa festival

The governor of Thailand’s southern Ranong Province has confirmed that this year’s annual spa festival will take place later this month. Local media sources reported that Suriyan Kanchanasilp stated the event will be held between 22 and 30 March on land adjacent to Ranong’s municipal hall.

The venue will be separated into five different areas with varied themes. Attendees can stock up on health and beauty products created from natural herbs and Ranong’s legendary spa water.

Musical and visual arts performances are very much a part of the spa festival. The exact schedule has not been announced yet, but visitors are invariably provided with the unique spectacle of colourfully-clad dancers performing southern Thai menorah routines.

Vendors selling the health products invariably do so at prices up to 50 per cent lower than the standard ones. Similar discounts are available on spa and beauty retreats at resorts close to town and the hot springs.

Ranong Province is noted for its unspoilt forest and mountain landscapes as well as its rejuvenating hot springs. It is not one of Thailand’s best known tourist destinations, but is starting to draw the more adventurous with the springs as well as fabulous beaches including Hat Laem Son and the island of Koh Phayam
