Vietnam’s Kien Giang Province adds hotel rooms

The Vietnamese province of Kien Giang is fast establishing itself as a popular tourism destination and has witnessed an unprecedented rise in the number of its hotels. The local tourism bureau reported this week that the number of hotel rooms in the southern province had grown by 50 per cent in just three years.

Nguyen Van Sau, a deputy-director with the bureau, says that in 2011 there were approximately 4,600 hotel rooms available for tourists. He continued by saying this figure had increased to 6,300 by the end of 2014.

The deputy-director finished off by saying that projects current underway would add more than 1,000 more rooms before the end of 2015. Kien Giang looks set to feature a total of 7,700 rooms in 370 different hotels.

Twelve new establishments in the three to five star range are scheduled to welcome their first guests before year’s end. Hotels in Kien Giang are primarily located on the island of Phu Quoc, in the capital of Rach Gia and close to the stunning beaches of Ha Tien Town.

Kien Giang sits on the coast of the Mekong Delta and shares a common border with Cambodia’s Kampot Province. Phu Quoc is the jewel in Kien Giang’s tourism crown and is noted for its fine beaches and unspoilt environment.
