Nguyen Tan Dung, Vietnam’s prime-minister, tasked the Ministry of Planning and Investment with setting up a viable agenda for the proposal. The PM stated that any resort wishing to build an in-house casino would need to follow a stringent set of rules.
One of the stipulations the investigating committee has come up with so far is that companies wishing to open casinos need to have US$four million in operating capital. The committee members still have to finalise the proposals before sending them to the PM.
Phu Qouc is a sun-kissed spot close to the mainland of southern Vietnam and Cambodia. The island is an up-and-coming tourism hotspot and is being actively promoted by local authorities. This campaign was given a shot in the arm when the government introduced visa free entry for visits of up to 30 days last year.

Media sources on Vietnam’s Phu Qouc Island say the national government has agreed in principle to the construction of casinos here. The report comes hot on the heels of a request submitted by officials in Kien Giang Province asking for permission to offer gaming on the island.
