The event which is held under the “Socio-Economic Empowerment Of People Through Craft” theme focuses on stimulating interest in craft products to boost the socio-economic development across the country. Craft products are showcased not only as art products but also as a means of generating additional income for households.
Crafts are viewed as an opportunity both for the rural population and big cities dwellers, especially those residing in Kuala Lumpur. There is a special program in Malaysia aimed at developing small scale local industries called One District One Industry (SDSI) which is closely tied to crafts, unique products, history, culture and identity of the place where such products are being produced.
Some of the most popular Malaysia-produced products and gifts include batik, sarongs, hand-woven gifts, songket, cucuk sanggul hairpins, Sabah pearls.
This year, the HKK 2020 craft fair features 680 craft producers, including those from rural and urban areas as well as from the Orang Asli community. The Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex is located in Seksyen 63, Jalan Conlay, KL
