New Expressway to Cut Travel Time between Delhi and Dehradun

Travel time from Delhi to Dehradun, the capital of the North Indian state of Uttarakhand, located at the Himalayan foothills, about 260 km north, which now takes between 5 and 6 hours, will soon be cut down by half to 2.5 hours.

Thanks to the construction of the Delhi-Dehradun elevated expressway which is due to commence in the coming months, it will become much easier for tourists to reach Utarakhand's capital.

The new elevated expressway will reduce the distance between the two destinations to 180 km. The project will also feature a new tunnel near Mohand on the outskirts of Dehradun

The Delhi-Duhradun expressway project will be carried out in three phases and will become operational by 2022. It is expected that the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will also give a boost to tourism and economy in the region.

Sitting in the Doon Valley between India's two most important rivers, the Ganga and Yamuna, Dehradun is a convenient base for exploring the area rich in nature, sport, cultural and religious attractions. Thanks to the cool climate, hill stations around Dehradun are a popular tourist draw. Some of the most well-known hill stations include Mussoorie, Sahasradhara, Chakrata, and Dakpathar.
