Major Railway Stations in India to Get Facelift

Selected major railway stations in India will get a facelift – the Railway Ministry of India has announced their plans to carry out a renovation to bring the facilities and services of the railway stations to international standards.

Two railway stations from the list are already under repairs. They are
Gandhinagar railway station in the capital city of the state of Gujarat (Western Railway) and Habibganj railway station in Bhopal City, Madhya Pradesh (pictured), part of the West Central Railway.

Contracts have already been signed for renovation of the following railway stations:

Gomti Nagar in the city of LucknowUttar Pradesh (North Eastern Railway);
Shivajinagar, in the suburb of Pune, the second largest city of Maharashtra state (Pune Suburban Railway);
Bijwasan in a residential and commercial neighbourhood of South Delhi (Northern Railway); Anand Vihar, Delhi (Northern Railway);
Chandigarh, in the capital of the northern Indian states of Punjab and Haryana (Northern Railway) railway stations.

The project is carried out under the patronage of the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC), Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) and other government-owned agencies.

The renovation will help decongest the stations by introducing a non-conflicting entry/exit to the station platforms and sorting out of arrival/departure of passengers.

Parking spaces outside the stations will be re-organised, too, to allow for smoother passenger movement.

International signage will be added for foreign tourists and the lights will be set up all around the stations for safety of passengers.
