Two Impressive Caves in Kanchanaburi Open to Visitors

For two months – from February, 29 till May, 4 – Kanchanaburi will allow access to two of its most scenic caves, one with colossal stalagmites. Tourists willing to tour the caves should register in advance as the number of visitors is limited and be able to swim as the caves feature wet sections.

Individual visitors and small groups up to 10 people should register between February 3-7 daily from 1 pm to 3 pm. Only visitors between 15 and 60 years of age are allowed to tour the caves. They should be in good health, not suffer from respiratory deseases, have no blood-pressure issues and be able to swim.

The two caves are located within Lam Khlong Ngu National Park.

Tham Sao Hin, or Stone Pillar Cave features impressive stalagmites some exceeding 62 metres in height.

Tham Nok Nang-aen, or Swallow Cave, is home to thousands of nesting birds and boasts amazing subterranian panoramas.

Lam Khlong Ngu National Park is named after a creek, which snakes go through the jungle. Huge eroding limestone cliffs hide large caves and grottoes to explore, many featuring impressive stalagmites and stalactites. There are also several beautiful waterfalls in Lam Khlong Ngu to visit.

Lam Khlong Ngu National Park in Kanchanaburi sits about 300 km northwest of Bangkok, in the direction of the border with Myanmar. It takes roughly 3-4 hours to get from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi and some more 3-4 hours – to reach the national park.
