TAT Expects 4 Percent Tourism Revenue Growth in 2020

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has revealed their expectations for 2020 in terms of tourism revenue. A 4 percent growth of overall tourism revenue is forecasted what corresponds to THB3.18 trillion.

International tourists' contribution is estimated as THB2.02 trillion (3 percent up), that of domestic tourists – THB1.16 trillion(5 percent up).

This year, 16 initiatives promoting tourism were introduced by the Thai government aiming at encouraging inbound travel. More VAT refund shops and counters were opened at the airports; several border crossings between Thailand and Malaysia and Thailand and Laos are now opened round-the-clock during weekends and holiday periods; visa-on-arrival fee exemption for certain nationalities was extended until April, 30, 2020; the e-visa service became fully operational.

Besides, a 50 percent discount on airport landing fees for international flights from 1 December, 2019, to 30 April, 2020 was offered. A number of new international air routes was introduced, both long haul and medium haul.

TAT's Governor, Mr Yuthasak Supasorn, commented: “TAT’s target for 2020 is based on several favourable factors, ranging from the government’s stimulus measures, TAT’s focussed marketing strategies and promotions of emerging destinations, new air routes and the positive outlook of international tourists to Thailand from key source markets.”
