Coastal Areas of Cambodia See Growing Numbers of Tourists

Before the end of the year, at leats 1.3 million foreign tourists and 3.4 million domestic travellers are expected to visit the Cambodian coast, according to anticipations of the country's Ministry of Tourism.

The interest of tourists to the coastal areas in Cambodia grows every year with more and more domestic and international visitors heading for Sihanoukville, Kampot, Kep and Koh Kong in the first place. In 2019, the numbers of foreign tourists increased 4.5 percent, while the domestic tourist arrivals grew slightly less – by 3 percent. About 15 percent of all overseas travellers who arrive to Cambodia with its main draw being the archeological park of Angkor, visit sea resort cities as well.

To attract more visitors to the area, the annual Sea Festival was held in Kampot province this year.

The diversity of the coastal areas and the islands, both natural and cultural, lure tourists of all feather.

It is expected that in 2020 the coastal areas will welcome up to 1.7 million international tourists and 3.5 million domestic tourists. In the course of a decade, by 2030, the number of visitors will reach 7.5 million.

Cambodia’s coastline stretches 450 kilometres from southeast to northwest. It is shared by four provinces – Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and Koh Kong. While Sihanoukville used to be Cambodia's prime seaside destination for decades, other provinces are becoming increasingly popular with visitors, too.
