Cambodia's First Bird Festival and Nature Expo Will Take Place on December, 7

The Royal University of Phnom Penh will host Cambodia's first “Bird Festival and Nature Expo” on December 7. The event is dedicated to Cambodia's biodiversity in general and birds in particular. All bird-watching enthusiasts and aficionados are welcome.

The organisers of the event – the General Department of Administration for Nature Conservation and Protection (GDANCP), Ministry of Environment; NatureLife Cambodia (NLC); Birdlife International, and the Royal University of Phnom Penh – have prepared an array of activities for the festival & expo including workshops and seminars, art and photography competitions, as well as interactive games and performances.

Themed “Together for Bird Conservation”, the event draws attention to the problem of critically endangered bird species that inhabit the Kingdom – giant ibis, White-shouldered ibis, red-headed vulture, white-rumped vulture, slender-billed vulture, Bengal florican among others. The aim of the festival is to raise the public awareness and encourage people to make their contribution in nature conservation.

Representatives of the BirdLife International Cambodia Programme comment: “The Bird Festival and Nature Expo 2019 is a good opportunity for people who are interested in learning more and conducting research about birds and nature as they would have the chance to meet experts from the conservation society.”

The opening hours of the festival are 8am to 5pm. To participate in its main activity – “Exploring Bird and Nature Walk” that will be held in the morning and in the evening – it is necessary to register on spot before 9am.
