Non-Stop Flights from Jakarta to Timika to Start on October 28

Timika, the capital of Mimika Regency on the southern coast of Papua, Indonesia, will be linked by a direct flight with the country's capital, Jakarta, starting from tomorrow, October, 28.

Batik Air, a full-service airline and a subsidiary of an Indonesian low-cost carrier Lion Air, will launch a new direct non-stop route that will connect Jakarta and Timika, Papua. It is the first non-stop flight between the two destinations set some 3550 km apart.

The route will be operated by a new Airbus A320-200 aircraft accommodating 12 business class and 144 economy class seats. Passengers of both business and economy classes will be offered in-flight entertainment.

The first flight to Timika will depart from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, immediately after midnight at 12.05 am and land in Mozes Kilangin International Airport in Timika, Papua, at 7.15 am. The return flight will leave Timika at 7.55 am and arrive to Jakarta 10.50 am. Time diference between the two destinations is two hours with Timika being ahead of Jakarta. Duration of flights in each direction is about five hours.

The launch of the new route supports the initiative of the Indonesian government aimed at facilitating transportation to the most remote parts of the country in order to encourage more foreign and local tourists to visit. Batik Air already flies to several destinations in Papua, namely to Sorong and Manokwari in West Papua as well as Jayapura and Merauke (via Makassar in South Sulawesi) in Papua.
